Terms of Reference (TOR)

• Report directly to district Head of Preventive Services.
• Supervise overall IMCI activities and ensure smooth running of program in his/her allocated districts working hand in hand with district IMCI focal persons.
• Identify IMCI trained health workers by facility and keep detailed up to date inventory.
• Conduct needs assessment and recommend actions to be implemented
• Coordinate IMCI training for health workers who are not trained in IMCI in districts allocated to him/her.
• Organize regular follow up visits and supervision to DHMTs and health facilities.
• Provide mentoring to health workers trained in IMCI.
• Coordinate I.H.S and UB IMCI (ICATT) trainings
• Coordinate regular IMCI refresher course where need arise
• Monitor availability of IMCI Job aids (Chart booklets, recording forms, Counseling cards, IMCI OPD register, IMCI Monthly Summary Report, HIIs tools, wall charts & algorithms) in each health facility on monthly basis.
• Monitor availability and functionality of DECAM corner with a register in each health facility monthly.
• Monitor record keeping and reporting in health facilities and DHMTs.
• Compile and submit monthly reports and organize quarterly review
• Meeting with districts. Give feedback to national level on quarterly basis.
• Participate in child health survey including availability of ORS and Zinc sulphate at household level
• Collaborate with other stakeholders
• Attend bi-annual IMCI focal persons’ meeting.
• Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor

• Managing and coaching staff, preparing work schedule and assigning specific duties.
• Assisting human resource department in determining staff requirement, interview, hiring and train new employees.
• Using CTG machine to ensure comprehensive, systemic, evidence-based approach to standardize intrapartum fetal heart interpretation and management.
• Develop, implement or evaluate individualized plan for midwifery care.
• Provide information about physical and emotional processes involved in pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum periods.
• Conduct ongoing prenatal assessment, tracking changes in physical and emotional health.
• Counsel women regarding nutritional requirements during pregnancy.
• Identify, monitor or treat pregnancy related problems such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, preterm labor and fetal growth retardation using ICD 9 codes.
• Monitor fetal growth and wellbeing through heartbeat detection, body measurement and palpation.
• Estimate patients due date and re-evaluate as necessary based on examination results.
• Maintain patient’s documentation using electronic medical record (R-care magnum).
• Collect specimen for use in laboratory tests, such as hematocrit, hemoglobin level, Rh factor, VDRL, HIV, Group B Strep, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Hepatitis B and GTT
• Evaluate patient’s laboratory and medical records, requesting assistance from other practitioners when necessary.
• Refer patients to specialists for procedures such as comprehensive ultrasounds and biophysical profiles where my knowledge of limited ultrasound is stretched.
• Enroll mother in PMTCT as necessary.
• Do group prenatal education/classes and exercises.
• Monitor fetal/maternal condition and progress of labor and intervene as necessary.
• Assist maternal patient to find physical position that will facilitate child birth.
• Provide comfort and relaxation measures for mothers in labor through interventions such as massage, breathing techniques, music, and excises such as pelvic rocking and squatting.
• Set up or monitor administration of nitrite oxide/oxygen or oxygen.
• Suture perineal lacerations
• Provide necessary medical care for infant at birth, including emergency care such as resuscitation
• Establish and follow emergency or contingency plan for mothers and newborns.
• Perform postpartum health assessment of mothers and babies at regular intervals.
• Provide postpartum patients with contraceptive and family planning information.

• Complete patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results.
• Maintain nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
• Establish compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
• Promote patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.

• Ensure operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintain nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identify trends; anticipate needed supplies; approve requisitions and cost allocations. (Billing)
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; clinical conference and SHE talks.
