TSELENG MAPHANE

As an early career psychiatrist with over 6 years of experience in Medicine and Psychiatry, I have developed core competencies in diagnosing, treating, and managing mental health conditions. My mission is to improve the quality of mental health care and research in Botswana, and to contribute to the global knowledge and practice of psychiatry. I have a strong interest in child and adolescent psychiatry and I have gained valuable skills and insights from working as a Medical Officer, and later a psychiatry resident, at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital. I am passionate about learning, collaborating, and supporting my colleagues and patients, and I seek to bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the field of psychiatry.

• Licensed medical practitioner with the Botswana Health Professions Council from 2016.
• Currently licensed medical specialist- psychiatrist with the Botswana Health Professions Council.

Completed research:

• Prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms among caregivers of children and adolescents with mental illness in two treatment centers in Botswana. [Presented at the 2024 SA-ACAPAP congress]

Ongoing research:

• Co-investigator in an ongoing RCT ; an intersectional stigma intervention to sustain viral suppression among women living with serious mental illness ans HIV in Botswana
